10th May 2022 progressive doubles
On Tuesday 10th May 2022, the weather was sunny and blustery, but did not spoil a good competition. Ted set out all 3 lawns and we used our Dawson balls for the first time. He organised a full morning and afternoon of games, ensuring, as far as possible, that the pairing was fair. The Michaels (Ring and Franklin) won the trophy.
9th June 2022 advantage doubles
This competition was played as a trial for the additional system of playing and scoring croquet, introduced this year by the Croquet Association. Four pairs entered: Andrea and Ted; Sue and Roger; Eric and Robert and Liz and Michael Franklin.
It was arranged on an all play all basis, with no time limit. In the event, the competition could not be completed on the day, with the pairs making their own arrangements to complete the matches. Liz and Michael Franklin had gained so many hoops that not all the unplayed matches were completed. Ted presented them with the trophy on 5th July.
21st June 2022 solstice tea
11 members had a wonderful afternoon in the sun with a gentle breeze. Sue had prepared sandwiches, cakes and tea for all. Members of the cricket club joined the croquet players remaining afterwards. For further details see News.
5th July 2022 advantage singles
Sue takes Advantage!
Undefeated throughout five rounds Sue was presented with the lovely medal donated by Rosemary for this our first Advantage Singles event. It was a lot of fun and very demanding for Ted and Roger who were giving their opponents hoops in their pocket to start with. Thank you to Ted, Roger, Robert, Michael and Eric who took part but couldn’t hold Sue back!
4th August 2022 club doubles
On a fine summer’s day, Sue not only organised and managed a good all-play-all competition between 4 pairs, she also won the day with her doubles partner Robert, losing only one match.
28th September 2022 club singles
Entry to the club singles was determined by players’ handicaps. The 8 lowest handicaps at 31st August were invited to play on 28th September, but only 7 could make it. There was a round robin for 7. Play started at 10:15 and ended around 16:30. The weather was kind, though cool and the cakes were lovely. Roger triumphed with 5 wins and 16 net hoops. Runner up was Michael with 5 wins and 9 net hoops. The current holder, Ted, presented him with the trophy.
29th September 2022 Pro/Am
There were 12 entrants and only 3 players with high handicaps, The highest handicapped players chose a partner by ‘lucky’ dip. Play started around 10:45 and finished around 15:30 on a day which was cool and windy. Players brought a bottle each and the winners had first choice. Roger continued in winning form. He and Daphne won with 4 wins and 12 net hoops. Runners up were Sue and Michael with 4 wins and 8 net hoops. It was a sociable way to end the competitive season.
