Our final match was the postponed one against the Dales. However, the weather was pretty awful and the forecast showed no chance of improvement, so it was cancelled on 5th September.

Our penultimate match was away at Ben Rhydding on a pleasant summer day. We took 8 players and Ben Rhydding had a couple more to enable substitutions and time keeping during the day. By lunch time, Ripon Spa had a comfortable lead, but this was eaten into by a resurgence by the hosts. The result was 14 games to Ripon Spa, 11 to Ben Rhydding and 3 draws and 127 hoops to Ripon Spa against 117 by Ben Rhydding.

The fourth match was away at Backworth on an exceptionally windy day. We took 6 players and Backworth brought 10, lending us 2 players per round. It was a close contest with the hosts getting their revenge by running 108 hoops to our 102. Another very friendly encounter enjoyed by all on the 2 superb full size courts.

Our third match was against Bishop Monkton on a sunny but windy day at Ripon. However, the atmosphere was warm and very friendly. It was a first appearance for Ripon’s Katy. The teams were very evenly balanced, with the visitors scoring 105 hoops to the hosts 103.

Our second match was against Backworth on a cool day at Ripon. Ripon started with 6 players and were lent two by Backworth; a late arrival for Ripon meant that the hosts only had to borrow one player at a time. By lunchtime, Ripon was at least 20 hoops ahead, perhaps due to being lent Backworth players, but by close of play the result was 129 hoops to Ripon and 120 to Backworth.

Our first match was against Dales and it took place on a really nice day. It was also a first for Alex who joined in 2023. Unfortunately, we could only offer 1 full court and one smaller one which was ‘rough’. The visitors played very well on the courts and carried the day. The morning session had them 18 hoops ahead. We pulled this back to 119 for Dales and 111 for Ripon and then tea and cakes.
