Cross Pennine competition 2026

Manager: Andrea Widdison

Unfortunately it was necessary to cancel the Cross Pennine League this year due to clubs having too many other commitments. A decision was made to run a Cross Pennine Competition instead.

This competition will be held at our club on Sunday August 23rd, where teams of 4 players will compete for the Trophy.

4 teams each consisting of 2 pairs using 3 courts. Each pair will play against both pairs of the opposing teams. This will result in 6 games for each pair  throughout the day. The games will be timed ( probably at 40 mins) which should allow for about 45 mins per court as all the games will be double banked. If, when time is called there is a tie the person who reached the last hoop first will be classed as the winner ( there will be no extra 8 balls after time is called just for ease and time constraints).

Report from manager Andrea

Ripon Spa Croquet Club hosted the First Cross Pennine Competition on Sunday August the 23rd.
The weather was absolutely wonderful and the 17 competitors certainly had near perfect playing conditions.
This was a doubles tournament with each team fielding 2 pairs.
Going into the last round things were neck and neck between Pendle and Ben Rhydding however in the final round  Pendle played some of their best croquet of the tournament and came out worthy winners, with Ben Rhydding having to accept the runner up slot. Bishop Monkton and Ripon Spa Croquet Club shared third place.
It was lovely that Roger was able to be part of our team after quite a long time away from the game. Other team members were Sue, Marcia, Robert and Katie.
Andrea Widdison managed the event and Sue provided some excellent afternoon tea for everyone.
This year’s winners Pendle will host the competition next year.
