The Club Doubles Competition on 28th May

Report by manager Andrea

After waiting for a storm to pass play started much later than planned. The competition was played on an all play all basis and was closely contested by the top three teams with the result resting on the final game.

Marcia and Andrea appeared to have a comfortable 5-2 lead but Sue and Jane fought back to take the match 7-6. Had the score been in Marcia and Andrea’s favour then Robert and Katie would have been the champions and Sue and Jane 3 rd. It was very exciting and obviously the final game was watched closely as a lot depended on it!

The results:

1 Sue and Jane

2 Robert and Katie

3 Marcia and Andrea

4 Liz and Michael

5 Eric and Alex

This year’s winners receiving the trophies from manager Andrea. As they won last year as well, they have swapped trophies.
Michael, Katy, Liz and Robert at hoop 8.

Club Advantage Doubles competition – June 2nd 2026

Report by manager Sue
Contrary to various unfavourable weather forecasts, we had no rain, which was a
great relief to all concerned.
Five pairs took part in this handicap competition. There were 5 rounds, each of 60
mins play. The aim of every game was for each pair to reach their allocated target
score before their opponents reached theirs. If the game was timed-out, then the
winner was the pair with the greater percentage success in reaching their target
score.
There were some close games but the most fiercely contested came in the final
round with Liz and Michael playing against Jane and Sue. At hoop 12, whoever ran
the hoop would be the champions (although neither pair knew that!). After several
thwarted attempts on both sides, Jane and Sue finally secured the win to take the
title.

Club Advantage singles 20th July 2026

Report by manager Sue I’Anson

As was not unusual this season, the day was very warm and sunny and the lawns were fast. Seven players took part in this, the inaugural competition for the Ted Flexman Rose Bowl. Although some were unfamiliar with Advantage play, they all coped well under my guidance!

There were seven rounds, each player playing six games, and throughout it was hard to determine a front runner, but ultimately Marcia Henderson took the trophy with an impressive 5 wins out of 6. Even better, Marcia improved her handicap in the process! There was a close margin between 2nd and 3rd , the order being determined by overall percentage success. Michael Franklin was 2nd with Katy Hill very close on his heels in 3rd place.
