Belsay on tour 2025

In August last year, Alan Mundy of Belsay Hall contacted the club with a view to arranging a 3-day GC croquet tour of North Yorkshire. The tour would start at Ripon Spa.

After some months of making and finalising arrangements, the 14 strong party arrived on Monday 23rd June, a particularly windy day. Progressive doubles were played in the morning. After pork pie and mushy peas, followed by cheese cake, court 1 was devoted to AC, on court 2 the host’s 2 teams, Ted and Roger plus Sue and Michael, played the visitors 2 teams Arnie and Alison plus Sue and Alan, twice. Both teams won and lost one match. Court 3 was used by the rest of the visitors, playing singles and doubles. Then it was time for tea and cakes.

The tour got off to a splendid start and our visitors appreciated both our facilities and warm hospitality. Day 2 was scheduled for half the tour playing at Bishop Monkton and half at Ben Rhydding and the final day everyone playing at Pendle and Craven.

It was interesting and instructive to play against fresh opponents of all levels in a non-competitive environment.
