On a cold, windy and bleak Monday in July, when we could have expected a fine summer day, Ben Rhydding visited us and we played our first level play match. It was very successful for us and the atmosphere was really friendly.
On Friday 21st July, having moved the date twice, we ventured to Parkhead to play Sheffield U3A always an interesting venue. The challenge this year was compounded by the weather which was wet and windy. Our hosts played so well that we only managed one game out of 12.
On 27th July, we went to Sheffield Croquet Club. This was the first time that Robert and Michael had played on this particular former crown green. An interesting, instructive and enjoyable day, which did not last as long as expected with only one court. The hosts won by 9 games to 3, which was no surprise as they played so well.
On Monday 21st August, we finally got to play Bishop Monkton. The weather was better than it has been for most of the summer, but the grass was long. This seemed to make it a tiring day. Ripon Spa emerged victorious and the losers took it in very good heart.
